Summer Adventures: On the Line

As part of my Summer Adventure series I decided to go and have my palm read by a psychic. What I've written below is a transcript of what happened. While it may not be verbatim, I tried to keep it as close to the original conversation as I could. Without embellishments, stretched or false truths! I had to leave a lot of what was said out, otherwise I knew some of you wouldn't read it all the way through. :)

Over all I had a very positive experience. She did try to get me to pay her to do some more in depth work, as you will read below, but I knew enough going into this to not fall for any scams. Also, for the sake of privacy, I will not be using the psychic's name. If you are interested in what real mediums are like and what they do, and also how to avoid being ripped off, I highly recommend checking out Erin Pavlina. I have truly enjoyed reading her blog for the past three years. With that said, I hope you enjoy this!

"Hello?" A smoky voice croaked out a greeting.
"Hi. Yes, I was calling to schedule a reading."
"Ah, yes, what time would suit you, dear?" The voice was smoky and the scent of incense and red wafted like smoke through the phone line.
"How about Saturday? About two o'clock?"
"That'd be fine dear, see you then." A hard clang of the receiver signaled the end of our conversation.

I was only fearful of two things. One, that my car would break down on the side of the road. And two, that I might fall for a scam should this psychic try and pull one over me. Still, me and my car putt-putted down the highway. While the woman had given clear directions I somehow managed to get myself turned around. Finally, I saw the sign outside of a small house. Being a half an hour late, I was afraid I had missed my chance.

Ringing the bell to a door clearly marked as "OFFICE", I waited. Thankfully the door opened, and a small, foreign woman stood smiling at me. "Oh good," I thought, "She's not mad about my being late." Not seeming to be upset or mad at all, she welcomed me into her office. The 'office' was not more than a small room separated from the main part of the house. On the other side of the door I could hear cartoons and the sound of children playing quietly.

"Have a seat." The woman gestured to a chair, she herself took the more comfortable looking seat opposite mine. From across the table she didn't seem like anything other-worldly. I had known what to expect, and then again was still a little surprised. She was diminutive, tanned with black hair, and an accent I couldn't quite place. We chatted for a minute about what it was I wanted. A palm reading, she explained, was just the very basic reading. A tarot card reading in addition to the palms was better, and looking into the crystal ball was still the best. But without missing a beat, she stated matter-of-factly that a palm reading was what I wanted, and it was all I really needed. So she set about her work, my hands opened on the table in front of her.

"Do you want me to tell you everything?" I nodded enthusiastically.
"First of all, I can tell you that you will live a very long life. You will live well into old age. You will have a long journey, and have been old for all your life.

I see that you come from good people. You have been blessed by God. Whatever hurt you have suffered has come from people, not from God.

There was a death, not of a family member but someone close to you. It happened when you were young, and it changed your family, and hurt you all deeply.

You look happy in your face, but you are not happy. You haven't been happy for a while. You are good to people; very generous. Yet you feel lately like people are taking advantage of your good nature and abusing your trust. You feel used." At this point I began to feel my life past and present, were written out plainly before her, as if she was reading from a script.

"In your love life there is much confusion." I chuckled to myself, not wanting to be rude. She didn't pause or look up, but continued to eye my hands as she spoke. "There is a man, whom you care for- you were together for a while- but a woman came between you and broke it up. This woman is extremely jealous of you, and she is malicious. She is manipulative. She is meddling, and doing all that she can to keep him at a distance. Eventually, if she is not withdrawn, she will keep him confused and you will lose him. You do not want to lose him, because this... this man is a kind of soulmate. For $180 I could do the psychic work to remove this man from this woman's clutches. But I can tell you don't have the money right now, so you come back and see me about it later, okay?" I smiled and nodded. We both knew I wouldn't be coming back any time soon for that.

"There is another man who is drawn to you, but you do not feel the same about him. He is a good man, but if you choose to be with him it will be to just fill a space. It is not love, and it won't be love. He will just be taking up space." I nodded, "You knew this?" I shook my head in the affirmative. Impressed, she raised her eyebrow, took a deep breath, and continued. Now we were dipping into my future.

"There is a young person that you will need to help. Not financially, but directionally. You will need to help them find a path.

"There is a person near to you who is going to suffer. You will not be their caretaker, but you will be needed. You will need to be there for them."

Abruptly, she sat back in her chair closing her eyes and touching her forefinger to her temple. "Ask me a question." I was slightly dumbfounded, so I decided to ask whatever the first thing that came to my mind.

"Alright. What work am I meant to be doing?"
"Helping people in need." Her facial expression read, "DUH. I meant ask me a hard question." However, she remained composed. I alternated between staring at her and staring back at my hands.
"Do not put your interests on the back burner. They will not serve you there. Do what you are meant to do and interested in, it will be better for you and you will be better off financially." Her voice was not firm, but not stern.  Cautionary, but kind.

Satisfied, she stood up and again smiled as I walked back through the door. "Remember what I said about that woman. I will be happy to help remove her! She's bad karma!" I laughed, told her I would think about it. With our good-byes and thank-you's now said, I hopped by into my barely-running car and was about to pull out on the highway when the song on the radio reiterated the woman's words.

"I love you, but I leave you.
I don't want you, but I need you.
You know it's you who calls me back here, babe."
